I presume you may drive? I highly recommend western Texas, San Padre  
Island for the Gulf shore with fantastic sandy beaches, Mexico border  
is a short drive away & if you're a little adventurous there is the  
Big Bend National Park along the Rio Grande etc.
There is also Port Aransas a bit closer, but superb beaches.
Closer to home would be Pensacola area, Western Florida.
Even closer is Virginia Beach, Virginia with lots for kids to do,  
great beaches etc., but quite crowded in August.
I've travelled all these areas for years although mostly in Late  
winter, Spring or Fall.
Depends what you & the kids want to do.
