For those who might be wondering how to distinguish a cross-over cable from
a straight-through cable, it is quite simple:
A straight-through cable has identical wiring on each end (ie. if the plugs
are oriented identically, then each wire colour will occupy the same pin
location in each plug.)
The cross-over cable will have SOME of the wires in different locations on
one end, compared to the other. It doesn't matter which end you plug in
where, the signals will be routed properly.
