Doesn't that leave you at risk of losing any freeware you've
accumulated, though, along with any software you've bought and
downloaded over the Web and for which you have no installation CDs?
Plus, what about any downloaded updates to programs for which you do
have CDs, and what about necessary changes to your System folder
wrought by those updates? If you have a crash and have to go back to
your System install disks, Apple will let you update from there to the
current system at no charge, but it can't replace third-party
extensions and preferences and so on. And few third-party software
makers will want even to give you the time of day.
