Martin,
I develop for and support 35 Macs daily, on OS's ranging from 7.5.5 to
9.2.2.
Applications range from the Microsoft Office suite, FileMaker, Quark Xpress,
PhotoShop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Cumulus, and many others.
I also consult for dozens of other companies that have a far greater
diversity of OS's and applications.
In my view, the introduction of CarbonLib with MacOS 9.1 caused a host of
incompatibilies that were never fully resolved even with 9.2.2.
The OS's that I had the greatest long-term stability with (on dozens of
machines ranging from PPC 7200's to G3/300s) were 8.6 and 9.0.4
Personally, I have been using Mac OS X on my TiBook/500 for 18 months (and I
find that 10.2.x is in general less stable than 10.1.x -- despite the hype.)
