I'm sure you can get on the net with an Apple I or a PET.

As for "beating the system". There's no need to "beat the system". You
can get on-line with Symaptico, Rogers and pretty much anyone else
with any computer that supports TCP/IP. It all depends on how much
hand-holding you expect. If you're running an old computer you can't
expect any anyway (you can find resources on-line since they are old
computers, by defintion ;). The EXACT same techniques that you use to
get online with Start dialup will be the ones you use with Sympatico.

As for high speed -- the only requirement is that your computer has an
ethernet port and supports TCP/IP, or, if you're really dedicated to
running REALLY old hardware, the ability to connect to an ethernet
network via an adapter.
