This is nonsense. Unless special software is required (e.g. AOL) to get onl=
ine NO ISP will demand that you have a minimum OS or CPU.

With virtually all ISPs you are perfectly welcome to pay for and run softwa=
re/hardware that's older/slower than their stated minimums but you can't ex=
pect the techs to be able to help you. This is perfectly reasonable. Also, =
sometimes it doesn't make economic sense to pay for fancy internet access w=
hilst running old hardware (e.g. paying $20/mo for internet access for a 65=
00/200 (for e.g.) is bordering on cost inefficient... you may as well pay $=
10/mo somewhere else and use the $120/year saved to upgrade to a G3/333 or =
so... if you've got a 7500/120 on highspeed internet and are actually payin=
g for the connection... you're better off getting a $10/mo service and buyi=
ng a G4/400 tower with the savings over one year... web browsing would be *=
faster* over 56K on a G4/400 than with a T1 on a 7500/120).

Usually the minimum required hardware is that required to run their "packag=
e" (a modified version of IE or Netscape usually) but it won't affect your =
ability to connect with "older" hardware.

Likewise, the reverse claim that ISP xyz allows older CPUs to log on to the=
ir service is just as misleading.

ALL services that use "normal" TCP/IP connections can allow older hardware =
to connect to their service. If I really, really felt like it I could drege=
up a Mac Plus and run an e-mail client or telnet terminal app connected to=
my home network via either a SCSI to Ethernet adaptor or an AppleTalk to E=
thernet adapter.

Anyway, I'm rambling.
