Hello Eric, The keys work fine for me in 10.4.4. with Text Edit, Pages, iWeb etc. with both an Apple wireless keyboard and an Apple USB Pro Keyboard. You could try the following as a first diagnostic. In System Preferences to to International. In International, select Input Menu. Make sure the 'Show input menu in menu bar' option at the bottom of window is selected. The select Keyboard View from the top part of the window. Then Select Keyboard Viewer from the Input Source icon in the upper right hand side of the Finder menu. A Keyboard Viewer window should appear on your screen. See which keys are highlighted in the onscreen Keyboard Viewer when you press the End and Home keys. If the End and Home keys highlight, then you probably have a mapping conflict with an application. If the End and Home keys do not highlight then you might want to try another keyboard layout at you Input source. For example, if you are mapped to US extended you may want to try Canadian or even the unextended US layout. Select of the ones of interest and see if the keys function properly. If that simple solution does not work you might check the Keyboard Shortcuts tab in the Keyboard and Mouse panel. The keys should not be mapped to anything. In particular see if they are mapped to any of the Microsoft applications (near the bottom of the window). If they are you might want to disassociate them from the one app. I don't know if Microsoft has mapping keys in the actual preferences that if configured might preempt the keys normal functioning. If anything else occurs to me I will let you know. Good luck.
