[muglo] Stolen laptop

Hello,

I know I am not the first but just had a MacBook Air stolen during a
break-in at our house.

It raises a number of issues which I am working through and wonder if
anyone has any insights into any of these items.

There were no unbacked up files on the computer, but my address book,
which was synced to my desktop iMac would be available to the thief.

I am trying now to figure out how to deauthorize the computer from the
iTunes store and .mac sync. Apple do not provide a quick way to do this.

In my research on the apple site, I came across a program called
Undercover, which runs on a Mac. If your mac is stolen you give them
the license number of the stolen computer. They can then work with the
police and ISPs to retrieve the laptop when the laptop is again
connected to the net by the new user. It apparently can also disable
the computer to prevent its use and also can activate the iSight
camera to take a picture of the user.

This may seem like a little late, but what do most people do with user/
access passwords to prevent unwanted eyes from seeing their data. My
data files were encrypted but may have been open on the laptop when it
was stolen and with the battery able to keep the laptop running, they
may have access to the files. Also passwords which are retained by
Safari or keychain would be able to be used by an unauthorized user.

A few rambling thoughts. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards

Tom
