[muglo] Re: Slow start up!!!! URGENT

First of all, upgrade to 10.2.6! There's a chance that'll fix your problem
(10.2.3 is rather unstable (well, compared to OS 9 it's as solid as Mount
Everest but compared to 10.2.6 it is Mount Fuji).

Rebuilding the desktop won't affect OS X performance. Perhaps you changed
internet settings or your connection to a network or the web? Long startups
are usually associated with network issues -- e.g. your computer is looking
for a DHCP server when none are available, or there are other problems with
the network.

I guess one option is to leave the computer running all the time, but since
you don't have a laptop "sleep" mode still chews up a notable amount of
juice (when in sleep mode a laptop eats only a little more electricity than
a clock radio)... my laptop only gets turned off (or restarted) when I'm not
going to be using it for an extended period (like two or three days). Unlike
OS 9, OS X does not require regular restarts to "clear the air" (in fact,
having it on is better for system stability than on-off-on-off-on-off).

Eric.
