[muglo] Slow start up!!!! URGENT

For some reason my eMac running under OS X 10.2.3 has suddenly started 
taking about 10 mins to start up with the coloured ball rotating all 
the while!!!  I don't know if it is due to the scanner software which I 
have just installed?  Should I redo the Desktop?  If so - is it the 
same way using certain keys at startup?  Does anyone know?
