Hi, since AOHell doesn't actually provide a SMTP server to send mail I had
to create a temporary work around. OS X includes a built-in SMTP/POP3 server
that can be turned on and controlled. If you're a UNIX guru you can do this
yourself. If not, there's a handy little application called "Sendmail
Enabler" <http://www.roadstead.com/weblog/Tutorials/SMSource.html>. It
allows you to control the built-in software and run your own mail server. On
dial-up it's a little problematic since it relies on having a constant IP
address. Thus, each time you log-on/off you have to restart the Sendmail app
(on ADSL or cable your IP addy wiill change less frequently or not at all so
you'll have to restart it less often/never).
Anyway, this is a good way around a downed sendmail server provided your web
access works. This is also a great solution for people with laptops who
travel and have to change sendmail servers each time they log-in somewhere
else.
Eric.
