I don't know if this is appropriate but here goes:

I have a Cannon LIDE 20 scanner running under OS X though not using 
negatives and slides - just paper sources.  There have been no problems 
providing OS9 (Classic) is NOT running - this must be turned off if 
already on!!  This is inconvenient if doing OCR work (an OS9 program!!) 
To get around this, I save the files first and then run the OCR  
program afterwards on all the files.
