[muglo] Re: Receiving faxes via computer

A fax IS a phone call, just like DIAL-UP internet is a phone call.
You CANNOT do both at the same time on the same line.

You CANNOT access the internet via dial-up AND send or receive faxes
at the same time.

If you're willing to share your voice phone line with faxes (as many
home offices do) then you can connect a FAX machine* to the voice
phone line.

*If you don't want a fax machine you can probably get an external
modem for your computer and stay on-line. That said, it's not much
more expensive for you to get an all-in-one fax/printer/scanner
instead!

There may be companies out there that can provide you with a "virtual"
fax machine where someone else will receive faxes and email them to
you. I remember a company six years ago that would provide you with a
free incoming fax number--something like that may still exist.

PS ADSL is NOT a phone call--it uses a different technology from
'phone calls' which is why it is possible to have a voice call while
you are on the internet. ADSL and 'phone calls' just happen to share
the same wire running into your house.
