Well, we're back to _both_ being right ;P (or, if you really want to get
picky, I'm right & you're wrong with your last e-mail)
One golden rule to use with Apple's specs is that they're invariably wrong
for older machines -- some of the specs have been updated but many have not.
Most of the older Macs were made at a time when 256 MB, 512 MB, and in some
cases 128 MB chips were non-existent so Apple never tested them (and thus
didn't rate them). However, their circuitry and ROMs were designed with much
higher limits.
For example, my Pismo/400 is listed (by Apple) as max RAM 512 MB, however,
people are running this beast at 1 GB!
The Beige G3 can take up to 768 MB according to a number of sources on the
web (and, I'd trust them over Apple ;), and on EBay there are a number of
768 MB Beige G3s for sale. One neat thing I didn't know about the Beige was
that it had an EIDE HD rather than a SCSI (so, much lower cost drives
possible :). However, if you ever do get a Beige, try to get a "Rev C" (but,
I'd rather go for a B&W since it's got a much more powerful mobo).
