Hi Kathryn,
Welcome back to the fold. I too am having some problems with 10.2.8, 
mostly related to my Epson scanner, which I didn't have with 10.2.6. My 
problems pale when compared to yours. IMHO most of yours are related to 
MS Word and its relationship to 10.2.8 as I have seen others reporting 
similar problems on About.com/MacOS. Hope you get some support here too.
