[muglo] Re: Problems connecting with Apple's Mail

From http://www.porchlight.ca/help_setting_up.htm

# Incoming mail server pop.porchlight.ca and outgoing STMP server
mail.porchlight.ca
# My server requires authentication must be checked.
# Your user name (or login name) is the first part of your e-mail
address name@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Looks like you need to activate user name authentication to connect to
your server.

Also, since you are using OS X you can use telnet to troubleshoot
connectivity problems (just as an FYI).

From the command line you should try something like:

telnet mail.porchlight.ca:25

and this should connect to your mail server. Type some gibberish and
you should get an error message back. This will confirm that you can
indeed connect to the port.

PS This telnet trick works for ALL ports and ALL servers. Telnet is
the most basic of all internet protocols so it can interact with
virtually anything that moves.
