Hi Paul,
When an Epson printer starts up after not having been in use for a while the
print heads are sometime clogged. Epson includes a utility with their
drivers which you can use to clean, aligning, and check your remaining ink
levels. This little application is called the EPSON Printer Utility.
If you use OS X you can find it under the following directory:
Library > Printers > EPSON > Utilities > EPSON Printer Utility
Once you have launched the app, double click on the name of your printer. A
new window pops up giving you several options. Select Head Cleaning and
follow the on screen instructions.
If you are using OS 9, during a printing session (File > print) you will
notice a few little icons in the upper right-hand corner of the print
dialogue box. One of these has a little wrench and ink level icon. Click
that and you will be launched in the OS 9 version of EPSON Printer Utility.
It look the same as the OS X version.
If cleaning the heads doesn't seem to work, there could be a more serious
problem with the printer. Of the four Epson printers I own, all colour
problems have been resolved using the Head Cleaner.
Let me know if this helps,
Ron Gallagher
