Hmm. Integrated apps are not necessarily garbage, and, there is that
bizarre situation where they are of use to some people, I suppose
(begrudgingly). From the point of view of someone that uses scripting
on a regular basis and works on a variety of platforms (Mac-only
existence is a luxury I cannot afford... unlike Windows users) I need
the best tools for the job, and, hands down that's Microsoft Excel.
*Nothing*, and I mean absolutely nothing comes close. Word, well,
that's a different story. It plays ball with Excel and is 100%
keystroke configurable -- those two features alone make it superior to
everything else in existence (configurability is not exactly a
hall-mark of Apple software ;-). Of course, if I didn't have as much
of a use for Excel as I do, then Word wouldn't necessarily be that
much better than anything else (except for the fact that you still can
configure every keystroke to your heart's content... and, I do... I
still use some Word 5.0 keystrokes ;-).

I guess with the likes of AW it's a case of "will it do?". If it does
what you need, then anything more powerful is a moot point. The other
*major* consideration with something as fringe as AW (and, it is
*fringe* with a capital f) is, is it worth learning the ins-and-outs
of a program that is only usable on 3% of the computer base out there
(or is it under 3% world-wide?). If you don't work on Windows, ever,
then devoting time, effort and even money to learning it may just pay
off. If you don't need those extra features (like scripting for e.g.),
then it doesn't really matter and, as long as it gets the job done for
you, it works.
Anyway, this thread has gone on long enough.
Eric.
