Can your G4 even take an Airport (probably I'm guessing since the G4s were
1999)?

You're looking at $100-125 for a wireless PCI card no matter what. I don't
know if any manufacturers actually make PCI wireless cards -- most IIRC are
simply adapters for PC cards (PCMCIA).

One consideration is compatibility! If you are running OS 9 exclusively, you
can get any old 802.11b card and have it work (at least in a laptop). For OS
X you should only get AirPort cards, *unless* you're (a) willing to install
OSS drivers (free, but not compatible with all cards), (b) shell out $30 for
drivers or (c) lucky enough that the manufacturer makes OS X drivers (some
do).

Two other options exist for you that won't be tied to one computer. USB
wireless adapter or a so-called ethernet bridge (they're all roughly the
same price) -- an ethernet bridge will require *no* software.

You can probably still find a NetGear MR814 wireless access
point/router/4-port 100 BaseT switch for <$100. It's kind of ironic that the
base stations are now *cheaper* than wireless cards (though, I'm not 100%
sure that it can function as a bridge).

Eric.
