Hold down the command key while you drag the file. This tells the
Finder to move the file from the source to the destination. Normally,
if you drag a file from one location to another location on the SAME
drive the Finder will MOVE the file. If you drag a file from one drive
to another drive it will COPY the file.

You can force a file to be copied by holding down the option key.

You can force a file to be moved by holding down the command key, but
only if you have write access on the origin. If you do not have write
access (i.e. delete rights) on the origin all you'll be able to do is
copy the file.
