I have used Paypal for a number of years now.

Even if one has the money coming from a bank account there is a dispute 
resolution system that Paypal guarantees client support by Paypal.

I have had to use the dispute resolution once when I did not receive an 
item paid for through paypal and I was extreamly pleased with the speed 
in which the problem was resolved and I received the item paid for.

I do get spam emails about my paypal account which I have never 
responded to but have sent them to spoof@xxxxxxxxxx for a speedy 
resolution and shut down of the offending party.

I would suggest you do some looking around to find out more about 
Paypal.

I understand Gerhard's hesitancy to use paypal except through a credit 
card.  I was that way myself but have since changed to bank withdrawal 
and have had no problems except the one as I mentioned above.

It was actually another Mugloite that suggested I use Paypal for all my 
internet purchases if at all possible and this has been confirmed by 
other friends both PC and Mac users.
