Hi everyone !
I know this isn't strictly Mac or MUGLO - and hence my (OT) rating -=20
but I've received very valuable advice from my Mac Buddies here - and=20
wonder if it extends to other electronic hardware?
Now that the election is out of the way - you've maybe would like some=20=
similar distractive way of using your valuable time- feel free to give=20=
your vote re the following!
My 6 year old GE Combo TV VCR 13" went on the fritz ( no implied racial=20=
overtones!) yesterday just in time for me to avoid wasting the whole=20
evening watching the election results - God's guiding hands are=20
everywhere !
With a basic $100 bench charge plus parts etc - and still leaving me=20
with a behind the times model after repair, I've decided to expend some=20=
of my ill-gotten wealth and buy a new unit preferably for under $500.
I don't want anything bigger than a 20" screen if possible, but a combo=20=
unit including TV/VCR/DVD player - something reliable which may last=20
out longer than I will ! :-)
Checking out BestBuy, Future Shop, RadioShack and Amazon.com the=20
models with this spec seem to be available from Toshiba ($440),=20
Citizen, Panasonic, Sylvan or Apex .
Designwise, the Toshiba, Panasonic, Sylvan and Apex all appear to be=20
acceptable - and the tech specs seem alike - including a Pure Flat=20
screen - which I gather is the way to go these days ?
My main use will be viewing non-Channel TV, Videos and DVDs from the=20
library - and possibly playing Music CDs.
Here in London, I could buy from BestBuy or FutureShop ( or=20
TigerDirect?) . I get the impression that online it would have to come=20=
from Amazon.Com v Amazon.ca (who don't sell tv's?) or Tiger.Direct? And=20=
what sort of delivery charges or after sales service results from=20
buying online? - is the $ saving worth it ?
The following report (if genuine) rather conflicts with my memories of=20=
an old Toshiba TV which lasted our family out for many=20
years....................

I really believed in Toshiba. We had 1 TV that lasted 15 years without
a single problem. This model was exactly what I wanted, for about 3
months. The DVD player quit. Into the authorized repair shop, 6 weeks
and the parts were still not available. I suggested it should be
replaced. I shipped mine back, $120.00, and they shipped a new set.
Great service I thought. The DVD has quit again 6 months later. I quit!
I can't face another fight or expensive return. Skip this model!
---------------------------
And if true - suggests a $ 40 plus extended warranty might be worth it
- despite the general view that these are an un-warranted extra expense
- oops, sorry about the pun ! :-)
So ........... now having faced the dilemma of having made my election
choice:-) I'm seeking your brief attention and input to guide me
through the next Senior's Moment !!!!
Thanks in anticipation for your helpful wisdom (if possible within the
next 48 hours?)
Cheers
Ilbert - or maybe that really should read DILBERT ? :-)
No need to reply to this unless you wish to be unsubscribed - Thanks
:-)
