[muglo] OSX/HPLAserJet4L

I just found an HP LaserJet 4L in the garbage, and it appears to work
fine. I have a couple questions I thought maybe someone might know
something about.

1/ a manual for the 4L... searched google briefly, seems it's fairly
hard to pin down. Maybe somebody out there has one of these? (ok, so
it's not a mac printer, really, but....)

2/ OSX printing. This printer is supported with OSX drivers from
linuxprinting.org. So I am wondering what is a better setup... a
parallel to USB adapter of some kind, or, could I use my old
PowerPrint paralell to serial cable, and get the mac to recognize the
printer on the stealth serial port.... I would bet only trying this
will produce the answer....
as for paralell-usb adapters, any suggestions on what kind, price,
where to get one?

This garbage find was a rather surprising one... I really didnt think
the thing would work. I always ask myself why ppl throw out working
stuff, when they could so easily call a charity to come pick it
up.... bizarre.
And seems the garbage guys stopped taking computer stuff that is
obviously computer stuff.... this printer I found the day after
garbage night, and I had noticed a lot of computer equipment left on
the curb all around the neighbourhood. It;s not supposd to go to
landfilll... it's supposed to be taken to the hazardous waste
depots.... but the garbage always used to take it.... maybe they've
finally made a policy not to take it. I guess good for landfill and
for me.
A couple weeks ago I found a fairly new VCR, and it works great.
Didn't even need to be cleaned. And it wasnt set out nicely intending
for someone to take it, it was actually under lots of real garbage.
Some ppl must just be crazy.
