Paul:
With any program in the foreground OTHER THAN the Finder, do the
following:
go to the Apple menu
click "Force Quit..."
select "Finder" at the bottom of the list, and click "Relaunch"
after your desktop reappears with all its icons. etc, you should then
do a full restart
