Oh yes

  I can get and send mail and use the browser, it is just that I have to 
do the Connect first using the connect  menu.

I just bought the computer - an eMac (G4) using OS X  vers 10.1.4.  They 
also supplied CD for vers 10.2 - why they didn't loaded I don't know?  I 
bought it from Future Shop last week so maybe they didn't know how!!  
Should I wait until vers 10.3?

I could not find the Advance pane.  Got as far as Network > Modem > 
Apple Internal 56k Modem (v90); gave a choice for Sound and Dialing.  
Nothing about "Connect when needed"  ??

I appreciate your help and will await your response to this message.
