Actually, I downloaded it (don't try this without high-speed access or a
dedicated phone line... 80 MB (6-7 hours on 56K)... ~2 min on U of T's
connection :), installed it without any hitches (aside from the fact that
it, like 9.1 update renames my "Applications" folder to "Applications (Mac
OS 9)" and moves "Utilities" folder into the apps folder <grumble> and thus
I have to spend time moving apps back to where I want them to be
<exasperated sigh>).
Other than that it seems to work just fine. In Mac OS X Classic mode boots
MUCH quicker (& apparently compatibility with pre-OS X apps has been
improved (though, I've never encountered problems with my OS 9 apps)) & even
Mac OS 9.2.1 alone seems to boot faster.
Note that according to Apple the 9.2.1 update is intended only for computers
that run OS X natively: "You can install this version of Mac OS 9.2 on any
of the following computers: Power Mac G4, Power Macintosh G3, PowerBook G4,
PowerBook G3 (except the original PowerBook G3), iMac, and iBook."
Apparently no one has figured out how to bypass Apple's built-in block yet
(they don't allow the System 9.2.1 file to work on anything but the
officially supported hardware). Although, G3/G4 upgraded older Macs will
supposedly run System 9.2.1 in the Classic mode under OS X.
BTW check out http://www.macsurfer.com or http://www.macfixit.com for
installation comments/problems/successes.
