It seems that I can't explain what is happening in terms anyone 
understands.
The email is already downloaded!

That appears to be the problem. I can't delete the email as if I click 
on it to delete it the attachment automatically tries to open, thus 
locking out any attempt to instruct the computer to do anything else & 
I have to reboot.

This is definitely not the problem.
The email itself is fine, as I've said before, the problem occurs when 
the attachment automatically tries to open said attachment, which it 
appears unable to accomplish, although my Netscape 7 opens it without 
any problems at all!
