And has always been... it's amazing that they charge premium prices but 
provide far less than premium on-line support.

It's probably a fortuitous confluence of the stars... or more like a 
combination of you practicing safe e-mailing and isp.ca being a no name ISP.

As long as you don't sign up to anything or use your e-mail address on 
mailing lists which list your e-mail address publicly you should be somewhat 
safe. The second thing is to _never_ respond to spam mail to "unsubscribe". 
And, thirdly, a small isp will likely fly under the radar of spammers -- 
they won't try to discover what are valid and what are not valid e-mail 
addresses.
