When I upgraded my OS 9.1 to 9.2 my Sympatico DSL connection crapped out. I
was down for about four days jumping through a variety of hoops including a
new modem from Bell. Nothing worked.
I couldn't connect the new modem because the tech sent software for Windows
instead of Mac. I called back and pointed this out to the tech --you never
get the one you talked with last-- and he ordered a new modem and Mac
software to be sent to me. They can't just send the software, it has to be
kit number ee-eye-ee-eye-oh that is grabbed off the shelf and put on the
conveyor belt. Okay.
About ten minutes later I got a call from another tech, I think it was
someone in a supervisory capacity, saying he could fix everything and you
know what? He did!
I am now connected whenever my machine (G3 blue and white, OS 9.2.2 soon to
be on Panther) is switched on until I switch it off. No software. No Access
manager. Just turn on my computer.
It was all done at their end while my machine was running with the new moden
connected and turned on. Ma Bell might be monitoring this story as I type it
but what the hell. I'm connected to the internet via Sympatico DSL and I
don't even have an account with Bell. It goes on my MasterCard.
What's more, I don't even subscribe to Bell. I use Sprint!
