Probably because people are intimidated by technology.  Anybody showing
interest outside of what they know is either challenging their knowledge and
comfort with what they know, because they can't comment, and maybe they
either don't want others to have an advantage, or they feel they think they
know it all.  

For instance, I'll go in and say 'why not submit essays and exams via ftp?'
and I wouldn't be surprised ONE BIT if some PC guy said 'we don't have to
get technical here.  Why can't you just submit it on a normal PC floppy
disk?  Or does Mac not have floppy disks?'

That is so very typical.  I just look at them and shake my head.

Well I can still use the Classic my sister had, and the 7100 I bought in 92.
What OS can you put on a 286?  And, my PB 180c would still be good...if the
batteries didn't die before the functionality of the OS did.
