First thing I would do is unplug all other phones, fax machines and=20
answering machines that are plugged into your phone jacks.  Now try=20
connecting with only the computer plugged into the phone line.  If that=20=

doesn't help has your housed ever been hit by lightening or could you=20
have a mouse chewing on a telephone wire leading to a phone jack, both=20=

scenarios could either damage a jack or create enough line noise to=20
prevent a reliable modem connection.  Another thing to try is take your=20=

computer to a friends/neighbors house and see if it connects better=20
from that location.
