Mathew,
To make a private server practical, you will need a high-speed connection. I
have only used Rogers and can't comment on other high-speed ISPs.
I know that Rogers frowns on customers setting up a server on their consumer
lines. They restrict it in their contract and it could be grounds for
cessation of service.
I would recommend that you contact your service provider first and see if
they offer that type of service or whether they would permit it on a
consumer line, if that is what you intend.
