[muglo] HyperCard Stack Problem When Burned on CD-R

A frustrating problem has emerged after burning several HyperCard stacks
on a CD-R. The movie clips installed using WindowScript (an HC
enhancement) won't play. However, they play fine when I run the stack
from an Iomega Zip100 disk where I've had it stored for some time.

The stacks were initially placed on the Zip using a Performa 6400 with
MacOS 9.0.4. Their creation took place many moons ago on an upgraded
"fat Mac" and an LC with MacOS 7.5.5 (?). I don't know how this may be
relevant!

I have a number of HC and SuperCard stacks that I wish to archive on a CD-R.

One of the things I've learned is that I can't burn a Zip disk to a CD-R
(I'm using Toast Titanium 6, BTW). Not only that, but I can't drag the
folder containing the HC etc stacks from the Zip to the Toast window and
expect it to burn. It's accepted in the window OK, but burning in both
cases results in some overrun error (and of course ruined CD-Rs).

So I have to save the HC folder to my eMac (MacOS 10.2.8, 512 RAM
w/SuperDrive), then drag it into Toast and the burn is successful.

Now the interesting part:

As stated at the beginning the problem emerges when I run the stack from
the CD-R and open a card which should launch a movie clip. Now, if the
original Zip is still in the Zip drive, then it does run OK! And, of
course, it will run as mentioned from the Zip itself. But remove the Zip
disk from its drive, launch the stack from the CD-R and no dice. Once,
while running HyperCard from the CD-R, I attempted to eject the Zip
disk, but got an error message reporting that the move couldn't be
completed because the disk was in use. So it does seem that HyperCard on
the CD-R was connected to something on the Zip, but what?

It seems that there is something on the Zip that it requires, but I'm
damned if I know what it is. I have copied everything (visible) from the
Zip to a folder on the eMac, then copied that folder to the Toast window
for burning.

While the movie clips are a minuscule part of my total project, it is a
puzzle to me why it's happening. And having to have both the Zip disk
and the CD-R present in order to run the movie clips on the CD-R really
defeats the purpose of the exercise.

What am I missing here?

Bob
