The one I had in Toronto (www.torfree.net, tfnet.ca) reports that Bell (tfnet.ca leases lines from Bell) is upgrading their lines and most tfnet.ca subscribers now can get 1500 Kbps down and 320 Kbps up (1200 & 160 before). PS Everyone be happy you're not in the UK (or in other parts of Europe for that matter -- I understand it's even worse on the mainland) -- internet service here is $$$ and slow. To get speeds comparable to what I was getting for $40 (incl. tax) ($50 if you go Bell HSE ;) in Toronto (1.3 M or 4 M with Rogers/Shaw) I'd have to pay $230 (£99)/mo here!!! For £27/mo you get 512 K (that's 64 KB/sec THEORY... 50 KB/sec in practice... haven't had internet service that slow since I used dial-up in 1997... I've been spoiled, haven't I ;-), NO e-mail addy and ISPs only provide USB modems so if you want a real ADSL modem you have to buy your own anyway. I'm going with Virgin... they don't provide a modem but do provide e-mail addy & no 12 mo contract (which everyone else requires). No modem didn't matter since I had to buy a real one anyway to be able to network both our laptops (*that* was cheap... £45 for an ADSL modem/4 port switch).... Friday I get to say sayonara to that miserable !@@$$ AOHell (& not pay them a cent since the freebie runs out on the 16th :) :) :).
