Hi Charlie: No, I hadn't thrown out the prefs and I should have as a matter of routine. You may already have seen that I did manage to remedy the problem. Many had suggested trashing the growing list of temp files - which I did by searching them out with Sherlock - I think it was "altmp" and deleting them, but to no avail. The winning answer came from my printers list buddy in Boston who mentioned "hidden" temporary files and went on to say there is a free program called "autopurge" which will dump these. After downloading it (about 1600K) I clicked on it and my problem went away! Now I keep it in my System folder under Shutdown items and it purges the day's temp files at shutdown. For those who don't know ... www.Versiontracker.com has a whack of Mac files. Some are freeware, some are updates, and some are shareware. It's a darn good site to bookmark. I imagine "Autopurge" is there. Thanks for your input, Charlie! Charlie Melanson wrote: > Barry, I know you've done this, but I gotta ask.
