[muglo] Funds/Mostly Mac & Mac Outpost

Hi All,

As 'president' thought I should weigh in on the issue.

First, I would gladly support MUGLO in any capacity - to better any group is
what you put into it. User Groups are offically supported by Apple and have
a section on their site for them - MUGLO is listed and that's where I first
found out about it. There are many out there, different capacities, but the
Mac OS seems to bring people together (common, but small numbers; like BMW
owners).

I figure it must help Apple - figure the tech support they save having users
help each other, so they gladly encouarge it - look at MacWorld convention,
lots of User Grouop activities. Try this with Windows users.

Was curious as to MM's and MO's reasonig to not support us - what are their
comments? CompuSmart I can understand - they have scaled back their Mac
stuff a lot since the iMac popularity, even the rest of their store seems
bare. Are they aware of the business sent their way? Even when getting my
car oiled they asked how I found out about them and kept track of responses
- do they know/realize this? I do mention MUGLO when there (both) and we
have had a gathering at MM in the past.

Also will look into to see what other Groups do for support and what local
dealers do to help them in different ways.

I think if the members draw up their own letters and thoughts it is more
personal - let alone filling up thier mailbox!

Had read an article by David Pouge (when he wrote for MacWorld) about the
state of User Groups. His point was as the Mac gained in popularity, more
users and then less people feel a 'common bond' with it - they see it more
as a 'tool' and not part of them (Mac users seem to descibe their machines
this way). He found User Groups were closing up because of this -
information/trouble shooting could be found elsewhere, especially on the
Internt.

My expierence is people still want face-to-face (or local lsit) contact when
working something out. Tee can attest to this as he makes his phone number
available for people. My mom thinks I'm a genius apparently 'cause I can
find her 'lost' receipe on her hard drive! :) Would hate to have her call
tech support ($'s and time) to do that.

Anyway, this is bordering on an 'Eric' message, so that is all.

Long live MUGLO!

Tim

How many Windows users does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Two. One to call tech support and the other to track down the virus.
