Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions on
how to fix this problem. I have a first generation iBook, 2GHz, Dual
Core, running 10.5.6. The problem is that the fan is running really
loud all the time. I tried using SMC fan control, and it says that
the fan is running between 4000 and 6000 rpm all the time, and SMC
could not slow it down. We tried resetting the pram, and resetting
the power management, and nothing changed. I checked my Activity
Monitor, under All Processes, and I'm running at about 5-10%. We
tried booting from an external drive, and the fan kept running the
same. We were thinking of installing Tiger on an external drive and
running it from that, wondering if it might be a problem with OSX. We
even opened up the laptop and cleaned the fan (we have 2 cats and 2
dogs, lots of hair!) but it really wasn't very dirty. Should I
replace the fan? Is there anything else we can try? Thanks!

Lara
