What browser were you using? I tried all of 'em (except for Netscrash since,
well, it won't even open ;-) and only Safari came close to succeding with
the page. There are some pretty serious JavaScript flaws with this site.
Safari displays a page and then goes through a never-ending re-load cycle.
The other browsers (IE, iCab, Mozilla, Camino) will only display the frame.
They won't display content.
PS This was the URL I used for all of 'em:
<http://www.presentationmaster.com/cgi-bin/getframeletter.cgi?/2003/09_sep/r=e>
In the end I did get to read it by clicking on the appropriate "Read this
article" link enough times to get one click to stick.
Sounds like one hell of a machine (of course, you're paying quite a premium)
and would be something to have, *but*, *but*, *but*, this one single quote
highlights why it simply would not function as a *work* computer (hell, I'd
take one of those in a second for play):
"The M60's default setting doesn't allow Internet Explorer to properly
display graphics at 120 DPI, and Dell recommended a quick 'n' easy registry
hack to fix things up pronto. After a quick dip into regedit, all was
butta-smooth."
The joys of Windows. Fifteen years after later, and you *still* have to do
registry crap.
PS I saw an amazing opportunity for Apple. Well, it was more like an
opportunity for Darwin/Net BSD. China/Japan/Korea are talking about making a
rival to Windows. Instead of Linux, why don't they go with Net BSD?
PSS I have to say that the G4 Titanium is a *lot* nicer computer than its
generic brethren. Two friends got computers last month, the one was a G4/867
15", the other a Dell something or other. Mac =$2600. Dell = $4000. The Dell
has nicer specs (higher pixel count, 512 MB RAM vs 256 MB, faster CPU, USB 2
(no FireWire though IIRC)) but five minutes behind the wheel on both
computers *unequivocally* proves the Mac the winner for the user experience
(and not just the GUI). The G4 just feels nicer, it looks better, and, above
all, it feels sturdier! The funniest thing about it is that the person with
the Dell thinks her computer is the cat's miaw, but people (quietly and not
in her presence) make the comment that they like the Titanium much better (I
think there might be two switches to Mac happening soon... they really like
the Titanium (though, they better move fast since I don't think the Titanium
will last)).
L8r, Eric.
