As some of you may remember from previous posts, I've had this
ongoing problem with my iBook, which will only read a certain number
of sessions off a burned CD. If I've burned lots of small sessions,
e.g. 40, it will only read 25 of them. After checking a number of
back CD's it appears 25 is the max it will read. However, these same
CD's can be read in their entirety on my Power Mac 7300/200. Because
the principal reason I burn the CD's is to transfer items to my
iBook, I am now just burning a max of 25 sessions per CD.
The problem is that I have about 60 CD's that I've already burned
that have more than 25 sessions on them. My options are:
1. Transfer all the sessions that can't be read on my iBook onto new CD's.
2. Pray that my 7300 holds up for a long time. I bought it in 97.
3. Buy a second cpu as a backup in case my 7300 fails me.
I'm considering option three, because I'm inclined to hang onto this
cpu, as I also have lots of Syquest cartridges that are scsi based,
that I can still access through the 7300 if need be.
I realize the alternative is simply to transfer all my back files
onto CD's rather than depending on obsolete media, but this would
take me absolutely hours and hours of burning, when perhaps a second
cpu might be a less time-consuming, although band-aid solution to the
problem.
What do you think of my logic, and if you think a second cpu might be
an option, can you suggest the best place to get one? Pls let me
know. Thanks.
