[muglo] Editing PDFs using Preview

Hello all,

I just discovered that it's possible to "edit" (in a simple manner)
PDFs using Apple's Preview app (in OS X 10.4 at least).

Using the "annotation" tool (the text box), it's possible to add your
own text or ovals to a PDF, OR to blank out certain areas (using the
text box).

I wanted to hide a particular area on a PDF that I was going to use
(easier than photocopying when you don't have immediate access to a
photocopier but do have a printer ;-).

1. I selected the text annotation tool (it's a pencil icon... can also
be selected from the Tools menu as Annotate Tool (select "Text" from
the sub menu)).

2. Drew a box over the area I wanted to hide.

3. Double-clicked on it to edit the text, deleted the text.

4. Used Tools:Show Colors (command-shift-C) to select the colour palette.

5. Selected white.

6. Saved the document (important step! Without it the change doesn't
print). NOTE: saving the document OVERWRITES the original,
irretrievably. Make sure you work with a copy and not the original!!!

7. Then I printed, and, voila, the area was hidden. No outline box either :=
-).

Eric.
