[muglo] DVD types

I notice when buying blank DVDs there are DVD-R and DVD+R; I assume  
that these are different formats?  Does it matter which type one  
uses?  If so, which one should one use? Or does it not matter? I have  
been using DVD-R.  But just wondered as they seem to work all right  
on my DVD Player.  Is there any reason why one should use DVD+R?
