There's information on how to clean cds on the following site:

It's under the category "sound recordings." At the end of the one page
article, it explains how you should clean cds.
This is a really great site by Canadian Heritage on how to preserve a lot of
different items. But for some reason, some of the links to the site just
result in a blank page. However, I think if you just copy and paste the
linkI provided above, it should work.

I don't know which is better cleanser but I have always heard to wipe
straitfrom the centre to the outside edge. I only ever needed to clean one
cd that had pop spilled on it, running warm water worked fine. There are
various devises available for cleaning disks but I think if you find the
needfor one of those it may be time to review how to properly handle the
disks.
