Thought some members would be interested in my escapades over the
last 2-3 weeks of scanning my 2,200 odd 35 mil slides via my Canon MP
760 All-in-one printer. I'm now down to my last 3-400, I'm glad to
say, as it's a bit tiring even when doing 4 slides at once.
About 80 % had significant fading, especially those that were 50-60
years old, despite being stored in Kodak Carousel Slide Trays.
Photoshop Elements 4 restored most to their original colour & I used
the Auto Smart Fix on most, sometimes using it 2-3 times. About 10 %
needed finite adjustment and about 40 % of all slides got thrown out
as not being relevant anymore. Each slide took approx 1 minute to scan.
Most originals were taken with a Canon 1000F SLR with a 35-270 mm
lens, which was almost impossible to sell. Marg's Rebel will probably
be worthless now. I've switched to a panasonic 5 meg with a 32-420 mm
equiv. Leica lens.
The exercise was worth the effort as I've now got a 7' x 5' bookcase
free and my whole collection can be stored on a 8.5 Gig DVD with room
to spare.
BTW it's almost impossible to find All-in-one printers that do slides/
negatives at the moment, although all 3 major stores tell me that
customers ask for them all the time. This month's Macworld lists the
current Canon model, which is not available in Canada as yet.
