Find an application - e.g. GraphicConverter does an excellent job -  set 
the resolution to 72 ppi, then scale each picture to 640 pixel wide and 
480 high.

Drag all the pictures into iMovie, set the time anywhere from 4.00 to 
5.00 seconds for each picture, and shuffle them around into some 
pleasing sequence. Place some appropriate music into your iTunes and 
call it up from inside iMovie, play around with a title page, and you 
might play around with transitions. Voila.

If you are satified, burn that package on to a CD as a data file. If you 
have Toast, do it as Mac OS Extended and PC (Hybrid); then your PC 
friends can play your movie also (if they have QuickTime Player installed).
