Hello!
A Question from a 'List Lurker' : I'm one of those people who use a
computer, but don't know very much about them : three years ago, i bought a
Titanium Powerbook and a Canon XL1 video camera : the PB was my first 'Grown
Up' computer and the camera, my first video camera.
I've slowly dragged myself into this new world of wonder : although
i work too long and have little time, the spur has been to get my teaching
onto video : my work is arcane and rare to find and difficult to learn,
impossible to explain in writing. Video is the perfect medium. I wasted
three years talking to television companies and decided to do it myself,
funding it from my earnings : at least to 'pilot-programme' stage.
It's been an interesting journey : the machines are so much cleverer
than i, when they work! The power book slowly failed and i believed it was
my lack of knowlege.... When i realised that it was the machine, not me,
it was several weeks out of warranty : that was avery expensive mistake : a
new 'mother board', a second catastrophic failure and a nother warranty
dispute : i have to regard Apple as a hostile company! But the machines are
amazing when they work....
The XL1 is about fifty percent 'Lens' and it's wonderfull : a bit
intimidating, but it's put me off still cameras for good : i now use it for
all my pics, just shooting a few seconds of video, then going through it to
abstract the stills that i want.
Adobe Photoshop Elements came, bundled with my printer and it's been
so good, that i've just lashed out on the full Creative Suite : i've yet to
learn how to use that.
Having got myself to a point, where i can do basic video editing, i
next need to create a website to sell the videos that i'm ready to produce :
just reading others questions and answers on this list has taught me so much
: my question is :-
What are the members ideas on the best way for a
technically chalenged senior citizen to go about creating a commercial
website for the sale of video discs. I'll be starting with a tight buget :
hope that it will make money and am open to all approaches, from doing it
myself, to hiring someone to do it : i'm interested in learning as much as
possible about the process.
Currently, i'm working long hours in Colombo, Sri Lanka : in June,
i'm moving to Mauritius to work, hopefully slightly more reasonable hours :
i have an ADSL connection and hope to get the same in Mauritius.
The original PB, is still working with it's third mohterboard and
has been joined recently by a 17" Aluminium PB : the old one is still in
OS9.2 and the new one is in OSX 10.3 : both are using an Airport Extreme
base for connection : amusingly and strangely, the old one refuses to
connect to 'Hotmail' : everything else seems to work.
Looking forward to hearing from you all, with your comments and
ideas.
With thanks in anticipation,
eion todd.
