Hmm. I wonder if those are the very, very, _very_ expensive digital SLRs
(the ones targeted at the audience for whom the difference between $1500 and
$2500 is merely a trivial consideration).

The major disadvantage with the "digital" lens is far less light going
through and increased distortion. The pro digital SLRs usually have a much
larger CCD ("film") than on the consumer or prosumer digicams allowing for
much larger lenses (more light, more control, better optics). Of course, the
prosumer cameras often come with lenses that rival the better lenses on film
SLRs from a few years ago, but with a lot less weight.

For some people film will continue to be useful, but for someone like me who
never made much use of film cameras (couldn't be bothered to do the whole
shoot - wait - develop thing), the advent of really nice but
not-so-expensive cameras (and with the promise of price drops to come in the
near future) has opened up a whole new world. I now use images for
everything. I'm just waiting to move back to Canada before I buy some new
storage (electronics cost an arm, a leg and a lung in England... e.g.
there's a $100 premium on iPods and a $250 premium on the Canon S1 IS ($1090
here (I kid you not) vs. $805 back home), AFTER taxes).

Eric.
