[muglo] CD Recognition & iMovies New Project

Two problems have emerged recently:

1.  The system does not recognize a blank CD but does so for blank DVD.
System Preferences for CDs and DVDs are set to ask what to do when disk
inserted. No reaction whatsoever to CD. Whassup?

I have trashed system prefs and rebooted with no effect.

2.  When I load iMovies HD it no longer brings up a dialog box giving
options, such as creating a new project. Instead it loads the last project
created. When I choose "New" under "File", nothing at all hoppens or the
application will simply (unexpectedly) quit, lately usually the latter.

I have reinstalled the most recent update (6.0.3) and trashed the plist file
in the Preferences folder with no effect.

My computer is an eMac running OS 10.3.9, with 4.2 GB space left on hard
drive, 512 MB SDRAM.

Any ideas on what is going on and how to correct it? Thanks.
