I think you may be correct. The problem with non-recognition seems resolved. It
looks like it may partially be the brand of CD-R that the data is on - Pine
CD-R 80's that I got at Radio Shack the others I have are Memorex Gold and
Silver plus other brands but they all seem to have a much more opaque cover
layer than the Pine ones

I've got a Fujistu (?) 250 Meg MO external drive I got from Terry Steeper oh
maybe 3 years back. Only thing I really need to back up are critical files and
some digital images, 5 or 6 of them do just fine. Most of the other stuff I
either have originals or can get elsewhere. The occasional system melt down is
OK because you tend to unclutter your drive a bit.

Same problems as with 9.1 - just certain discs. No problems with hang-ups on
either OS now.

If things really deteriorate I'll try it. I'm thinking of moving to OS 9.2 and
perhaps a clean install of 9.1 might be the best way to do that too.

Did this too! It's a pain getting all the preferences back to where I want
them!!

I'll look into it or perhaps borrow one to give it a try, although with 4
machines perhaps buying one would be a good option.

I keep debating whether I should add onto the G3 or perhaps get an external
firewire for the Cube. If I do need to replace it though I think a burner is
what I'd get. Certainly make burning discs easier (read more convenient.
