So it's the web that's slower than usual?
Since you are running OS 9 I am not at all surprised. Many sites are
starting to use much more advanced HTML and CSS code which means that
computers running Mac OS 9 are having a hard time keeping up. I've
noticed the same slowdown on my father's iMac G3/233 MHz. Some
websites are now taking forever to open up.
I would recommend that you upgrade your G4 (tower?). Add an additional
128 MB or 256 MB of RAM to bring your total to 256 MB or 384 MB and
install OS X 10.3 or 10.4.
You will find that your web browsing experience will be MUCH faster
and better with OS X than with OS 9. Camino, Firefox and Safari are
all up-to-date browsers that support the latest web standards (it is
the latest web standards that are causing your slowdown problems).
Upgrading your G4 tower is actually a very cheap solution. You can
purchase an extra 128 MB or 256 MB for your G4 for a pittance ($15-30)
and Mac OS X 10.3 can be had for $40-60 from eBay (or, I'm sure
someone on the list probably has an unused DVD or set of CDs for
10.3). With OS X on your G4 tower you will still be able to dual boot.
For you regular Mac OS 9 software you can boot into OS 9 (or use
"Classic") and if you want to use the web you can boot into OS X.
Eric.
