The way I found to set default is open Safari and from the menu bar on top
click on Safari, then preferences and under the general preferences you will
see an area to select default...set this to Safari.
The new Tiger operating system, due out next Friday April 29th, Safari will
have the built in interface for RSS. I have seen it work and it is a great
new feature to Safari.
